Final preview:

Step 1.

Start off with a new document sized 600×1000 pixels. Fill it with a light brown color.

Step 2.

We will want at first to split the scene in three parts for a better view on what we are going to create. For a good split we are going to need a grid. So go to View-Show-Grid.

Step 3.

There are 6,5 squares.

I have choosen to give a 3 rows for the sky, 2 and a half for the sand and 1 for the water. We started from the bottom so create a new layer and grab the Rectangular marquee tool. Make a selection from the bottom to the middle of the next column. Fill it white and name the layer water.

Step 4.

Repeat the step for both sand and sky. Make another new layer name it sand , grab the rectangular marquee tool and select 2,5 rows and fill them with a light brown colour. For the sky repeat the same step for the rest of the rows.

Change the order of the layers in the order below:

Step 5.

We are first going to create the water. So grab the pen tool , make a selection like below(make it look as fluid as possible , like waves), right click it choose Make selection… and then delete the water layer with the selection still on create a new one and fill it white and rename it water 1.

Step 6.

Create another new layer and name it water 2. Again with the pen tool make a selection similar to the one below and fill it with a really light blue.

Step 7.

On a new layer named water 3, make another selection like below with the pen tool and fill it with a darker blue.

Step 8.

In this step we are going to create some water splashing, grab the rounded marquee tool and with the settings below make many circles.Fill them with the same darker blue.

Step 9.

With the circle marquee tool make selections inside the darker blue water , and then press Ctrl+X to cut them. This will add an interesting effect on the water.

Step 10.

This is the last water layer. Water 4. Also add water circles inside and outside the water.

Step 11.

This is the layers order. On the water 1 layer add a stroke with the settings below. After that select the water 4 layer and press Ctrl+E to merge all the water layers together. After this step we will return to the same 3 layers : Sky, Water 1, Sand.

Step 12.

The scenery looks a little dull so we are going to give a little life to the sand. So select the sand layer and grab the gradient tool with the settings below and start from bottom to up.

Step 13.

We are going to repeat the step for the sky layer. Select the sky layer and grab the gradient with the settings below. Start from bottom to up holding the Shift button for a straight line.

Step 14.

Let`s create the beach chair.

Use the pen tool to create a shape like in the image below on the left. Fill it with brown. Go to layer-Duplicate layer and then Edit-Transform-Flip Horizontaly.

This will create a mirror image for the leg of the chair. Press Ctrl+E to merge the chair legs layers together. Again with the pen tool create a selection like the one in the fourth image and fill it brown and trim a little from the sides.

Step 15.

You now are supposed to have 1 layer containing the beach chair. We need to fit 5 beach chairs in the picture. It is ok and recommended for the chairs to intersect for a better looking view. Go to layer-Duplicate and move the newly duplicated chair on it position like below untill you got 5 of them.

Step 16.

Let`s add a little shadow to the chairs. Grab the rounded rectangular tool , set the foreground colour to a darker sand colour and on a new layer make a shape like below. Repeat the step for all the 5 chairs.

Step 17.

Next let`s add our phones ( http://www.nokia6700slide.com/photos/nokia-6700-slide.png ) , and using the free transform tool(Edit-Free transform tool) , let`s place the phone on to the beach chair.

Step 18.

We need 5 phones so with the new phone layer selected go to Layer-Duplicate layer and using the mouse move it on the next beach chair. Add it the following layer styles to change the colour of the phone.

Step 19.

Repeat the steps for all the phones.

Step 20.

We are now going to create 5 umbrellas. So using the pen tool make a selection like below and on a new layer fill it with a blue colour because the first phone on the left is blue and he will be the first to receive the umbrella.

Step 21.

We are going to add more detail to the umbrella. So using the circle marquee tool we have made a selection like below. With the selection still on and on the same umbrella layer grab the dodge tool and add a little dodge. Press Ctrl+D to deselect.

Step 22.

Again with the pen tool create a shape like below and fill it white.

Step 23.

For the umbrella hand holder , make a selection like below and with the gradient tool make a filling like below.

Step 24.

With the umbrella ready let`s place it on the phones. First on the blue phone and after that , duplicate the umbrella layer and add it a color overlay with red and move it over the red phone. Duplicate the umbrellas and change the colours untill you cover all the phones. Don`t hesitate to use the Free transform tool to change the position of the umbrellas untill you get a satisfing result. We have finished our tutorial.
