Step 1. Start off with a new document sized 600×600. Now download and open a tomato photo ( I used one from sxc.hu click here). Using the quick selection tool brush over the tomato untill it`s selected like below and paste it in the new 600×600 file with a blue background. Step 2. Go to Image-Adjustments-Desaturate: Step 3. Go to Filter-Stylize-Solarize and set the blending mode to the layer to Screen. This will make your tomato transparent. Step 4. Now let`s add the juice in the tomato. Make a selection of the tomato (ctrl+click on layer) With the eliptical marquee tool set on Subtract make a circle like in the image below: You should remain with a selection just under the half of the tomato, so create a new layer underneath the tomato: Fill the layer with a red color. Step 4. With the same eliptical marquee tool create a selection like below and on a new layer underneath the tomato and above the previous layer created and fill it red. Step 5. We need to add some shades on the liquid inside the tomato so grab the dodge and highlight some of the zones. With the burn tool with the same settings as the dodge tool brush a little more: Step 6. Using the same tehnique as in Step 4. we need to create a circle with the eliptical marquee tool and then subtract with another circle. Fill it with a simple gradient from black to white. Set blending mode to screen Play a little more and add more of this shines: Step 7. Grab a soft brush colour black and add a shadow on a new layer under the tomato like below: Step 8. To add more shading create a new layer on top of all the layers, choose a gray soft brush tool and brush like below: Set blending mode to colour burn and you are done:
