Note: This tutorial has been carried out in Adobe Photoshop CS5. The 3D option in older versions may differ.
Before you continue, create a new document in Adobe Photoshop CS5 of Width: 800px and Height: 600px. Fill the background with 25% Gray and save the document as texture.png.
Final Result:
1) Open a new document with the following settings:
2) Open a new layer and Fill (Shift+F5) it with #000cff.
3) Open a new layer.
4) Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool and make sure Add to Selection is switched on in the Tool Options Bar.
5) With the help of guides, draw three rectangles as shown:
6) Fill (Shift+F5) the rectangles with White and deselect the selection (CTRL+D).
7) Select both the layers:
8) Go to 3D > New Shape From Layer > Sphere.
The ball is now ready. Rotate the ball around till you are happy with how it looks:
9) Open the 3D Panel by clicking on the Layer Thumbnail.
10) Open Filter By: Materials.
11) Now click on the icon next to Opacity and select Load Texture.
12) Select the file texture.png and click OK.
13) Next, open Filter By: Light and change the Preset to Day Lights.
That’s it, babe. Here are a bunch of 3D balls:
