How To Use Clipping Mask In Photoshop

In this tutorial you are going to learn a great use of the Clipping Mask function in Adobe Photoshop.

Final Result:

1) For this tutorial, I am making use of the texture below:

Feel free to use this texture if you wish to. Right-click the image and select save. Then load the texture in Photoshop.

2) In the Layers Panel, right-click Background and select Duplicate Layer. Just click OK on the dialog box that appears next. This creates a duplicate of the background you are using.

3) Select Background in the Layers Panel and then press CTRL+SHIFT+U. This de-saturates the original texture. You may turn off the layer visibility for Background Copy if you like. This way you know what is happening.

4) Select the Text Tool and type any text you like on the document.

5) Open Layer Style for the text layer and make the following changes:

6) In the Layers Panel, drag Background Copy and place it above the text layer.

7) Right-click Background Copy and select Create Clipping Mask. This clips the original texture over the text layer.

That’s it, babe. Final Result:

Voila.
